Economics of Culture

The languages of economics and culture rarely meet. I am part of an effort to value culture, not stricto sensu, but by underlining how culture impacts individual and collective welfare by enhancing tolerance, creativity, and innovativeness, all essential to growth and equity in advanced societies. A discussion and review on the connection between culture and the economy is undertaken in a study on “Culture and Development”, whose executive summary in English is available.

I have participated as keynote speaker in several fora on the synergies between culture and the economy, including the first “Forum Arte Contemporanea Italiana”, in Prato, Toscania, and the “Creative and Cultural Crossovers” conference, in Riga, sponsored by the Latvian presidency of the European Union.
